About 120 words
Jam The Van organises school food drives for the Tafel, Germany's network of food banks. Across Germany, around 1.6 million people receive food from the Tafel, and about one in three locations sometimes has to turn people away. The idea started in November 2023 as a school project by Sophie Kitching and Pia Liesegang in year 10. The first campaign took place in March 2024 at Bonn International School, the biggest so far in December 2024 at Gymnasium Müngersdorf in Cologne. How it works: a pitch with a short video in the school hall, one week of collecting, then a counting day on which the team checks every donation. After that, the Tafel picks up the boxes. Since September 2026, a team of four has been working on founding Jam The Van as an association. The team: Sophie Kitching, Pia Liesegang, Joshua Klinghammer and Leonard Hoppe.
